Cornish and ISB continue their partnership in Consilience by bringing Gerladine Ondrizek to talk about her latest artistic research on early biometric data.

Please join us in welcoming Geraldine Ondrizek, Professor of Art and artist at Reed College, to ISB where she will give a lecture on the work she did during her residency at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin.

Talk Title: Origins of Biometric Data

Research and studio work based on findings from the Kaiser Wilhelm Archive at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin of Dr. Georg Geipel’s hand and fingerprint studies (1930-1960).

Biography:

Geraldine Ondrizek is a Professor of Art and artist at Reed College in Portland Oregon. For the last twenty years she has collaborated with genetic and medical researchers to make architectural based installations. She has had over 30 solo exhibitions internationally and is the recipient of several grants including an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Ford Family Foundation, exhibition grants from NASA and the Houston Foundation, UNESCO Artist in Residence, an NEA exhibition support grant, and a Mellon Foundation Art and Science Research Grant. Her 2014-15 project Shades of White focused on skin color charts and eugenics practices in the US. She recently completed an artist in residence at Kaiser Wilhelm Archive at The Max Planck Institute in Berlin where she studied the work of Dr. Georg Geipel and the origins of Biometric Data. She received her BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MFA from the University of Washington.

Exhibitions in 2015-16: Global-Exo Evolution ZKM, The Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe Germany, Twisted Data, Haber Space, New York, Technology and Evolution, Phoenix Gallery, Brighten England.
