| GLIOBLASTOMA CAMPAIGN FUNDRAISING SURPASSES THE $5 MILLION MARK In May of this year, ISB researchers and their family members joined the fight against brain cancer with more than 1,500 people at the Mercer Island High School track. The 2009 Seattle Brain Cancer Walk raised more than $250,000. These funds will further a joint campaign to support the Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment (CABTT) at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute |
and ISB in their collaboration to bring new hope to brain cancer patients and their families. Through groundbreaking research, personalized treatment plans and patient-centered care, ISB (led by Lee Hood, MD, PhD) and CABTT (led by Greg Foltz, MD) are improving outcomes for patients today and working toward a cure for brain cancer tomorrow. The three-year, $20 million campaign was launched to support glioblastoma research and treatment. Currently, only 3 percent of glioblastoma patients survive more than five years. Half the funds will create an endowment that provides long-term support of predictive and proactive care at the CABTT. The other half will be used to fund research at ISB into early diagnosis and improved treatment of glioblastoma.
Together, ISB and Swedish have raised more than $5 million in research grants and gifts to support the campaign. With your help we can achieve our goal of doubling the life expectancy of glioblastoma patients within the next five years.
