Andrew-Magis

Andrew Magis is the Director of Data Science at ISB. He previously worked as the Director of Research at Arivale, a Scientific Wellness company with the goal of providing members actionable recommendations to improve their health and reduce their risk of disease. Dr. Magis managed the team of developers and scientists responsible for collecting and analyzing the longitudinal multi-omic data on members who joined the Arivale program. These data included genomics, clinical laboratory tests, 16S gut microbiome sequencing, plasma proteomics, plasma metabolomics, quantified-self data from personal tracking devices, and health history and lifestyle assessments. Over the course of five years, Arivale enrolled more than 5,000 individuals in the program and collected tens of thousands of time points. These data were used to study the effects of sleep variability on BMI, identify multi-omic associations with microbiome metabolites linked to cardiovascular disease, and analyze the impact of polygenic risk scores on response to lifestyle coaching.

Dr. Magis’ team at ISB continues to develop approaches to analyze longitudinal multi-omic data, building on the work pioneered at Arivale. His research interests include the phenotypic impact of genetic predisposition, the applications of deep phenotyping in systems biomedicine, and the discovery of early disease biomarkers.

Dr. Magis received his PhD in Biophysics and Computational Biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles on his research.
