A bequest is an easy and meaningful way to provide for ISB's future. A bequest is a gift made through your estate. It may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the estate, or a remainder after other distributions have been made. You may also choose to focus your bequest to a program or issue such as P4 Medicine, the Center for Inquiry Science, or funding new faculty. (sample bequest language below)
If you have already provided for ISB in your estate plans, please let us know so that we may acknowledge you in our annual report and invite you to special events.
For more information about using bequests to make a gift to ISB, please contact Renee Duprel in the development department at (206) 732-1398 or Renee.Duprel@systemsbiology.org

Sample Bequest Language
Outright Bequest
An outright bequest allows a specific piece of property (stocks, bonds, mutual funds), an amount of money or a percentage of your estate to be given to support ISB's research.
"I give to the Institute for Systems Biology, the sum of $_____ (or describe the real or personal property) to be used for its general purposes."
Residual Bequest
If you would prefer to leave the remainder of your estate to ISB after all outright bequests have been made, you may write your will designating ISB to receive a residuary bequest.
"I give the Institute for Systems Biology all (or ___%) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for its general purposes."
Contingent Bequest
You may also choose to remember ISB by way of a contingent bequest which allows us to receive a distribution from your estate if, and only if, one or more of your named beneficiaries does not survive you:
"I give the residue of my estate to my brother, [John]. If my brother [John] does not survive me, I give the residue (or ___%) to the Institute for Systems Biology to be used for its general purposes."
If you are interested in supporting a specific project, it is best to discuss your idea with our Development office.
Please consult with an attorney when writing your will to ensure that your wishes are clearly articulated.
