Research Interests
Dr. Rust's main research focus is in the computational prediction of transcription factor binding sites on DNA sequences. He has been developing an integrated multiple algorithm approach, that incorportates both an optimisation strategy and a statistical framework, that aims to produce reliable, confident predictions of potential binding sites. In broader terms I am interested in the applicability of 'intelligent' computational approaches, such as machine learning, optimisation methods and evolutionary computation, to address problems in biological systems.
