The Baliga laboratory is developing systems biology approaches to the study of prokaryotic organisms. We are currently focused on deciphering the complete gene regulatory circuit of the archaeal halophile Halobacterium NRC-1. The long term vision is to use predictive mathematical models for gene regulatory networks in this organism to engineer designer circuits for a variety of biotechnological applications such as environmental clean up. Research conducted in our group, like all other groups at ISB, is multi-disciplinary— bringing together talented personnel of varied expertise— for the purpose of building innovative solutions for complex systems biology problems.
